Puerto Rico has been impacted once again by two devastating earthquakes, and thousands more that have followed since December 2019. Our team continues to respond by providing resources for the Deaf/HH.
All night the ground vibrates here.. and throughout the night the earthquakes have us jumping-up and yelling *RUN* ...the quakes are always happening while we work, but at night it is different when you are laying horizontally and your entire body is connected to the ground. In the morning we shake it off and keep it moving. Around us are homes that are smashed flat, camps made up of makeshift homes, neighbors sleeping in their yards mattresses under tarps. Our team has supplied Deaf people of all kinds, they sleep outside and some have lost their homes... we continue to work the camps and the mountains. People have been asking how we even know how to locate Deaf people ...well, it is tricky, sometimes if we are lucky we get emails from other humanitarians or media/news who know of OTG and they inform us, other times we are finding them on foot. When we supply them, by the time we walk back to the jeep there are more people standing there waiting for us to help them. We help them too. We get locals donating us with supplies too, or if we find stores that have new shipment in then we can stock-up, so just as we think we are emptying the jeep of supplies, it fills back up.
After Hurricane Maria in 2017, we began providing disaster-relief to the Deaf/HH Community in Puerto Rico.
